Route 81

Route 81 Youth Project (R81) was formed in response

to a community need for more activities for young people

in the area, specifically teenagers.

The Youth Project gained charitable status in January 2004

and subsequently became a company limited by guarantee.

R81 is governed by a Board of Directors.

At present R81 does not have its own premises and is operating from the local church, Garelochhead Parish, who have kindly provided office and hall space for the youth project.

In 2005 funding was gained to employ two part-time project workers who are currently seeking funding and premises to achieve the vision of a dedicated youth drop-in centre/internet cafe offering a variety of opportunities and life experiences for local young people.

Volunteers are essential to the continued success of R81.  All R81 volunteers are subject to interview, references and Disclosure Scotland checks to ensure the safety of the young people.  Volunteers and paid staff must comply with all of the R81 policies and procedures in place to maintain standards and safety.

R81 is affiliated to Strathclyde Youth Club Association and Youth Scotland who provide insurance, professional support, access to training and advice, educational awards and opportunities for young people.  The Youth Project also has a close working supportive relationship with Community Education.
